Tancada lagoon contains a range of plant environments distributed according to the degree of salinity of the substratum. Linked to the saltiest parts are the natural environments of reedbeds and saltworts. The connection of the saltworts with the marine environment makes them a haunt of water birds all year round: flamingos, seagulls, terns and waders.

The Delta is also home to one of the main populations of Spanish toothcarp, a small fish native to the Mediterranean coast, adapted to very salty conditions, which is in danger of extinction.

The Spanish toothcarp is a fish that adapts very well to the salty conditions.

The plant life to be seen in this lagoon is unique.
