Salt flats are artificial (or man-made) ponds designed to allow seawater to evaporate due to the effects of the sun and wind to obtain common salt. Salt has played a pivotal role in the Ebro Delta’s history.

MónNatura Delta has scaled-down recreations of the Delta’s salt flats aimed at explaining their purpose and importance.

Beyond its culinary applications, salt has been an indispensable product for food preservation. Moreover, it has been used in various industries, such as cosmetics, water treatment and the manufacturing of detergents and plastics.
