  • On 12 August 2026, Catalonia will experience an exceptional phenomenon: a total solar eclipse visible in its full splendour especially from Terres de l’Ebre and the south of Lleida. In Amposta, totality will begin at around 20:29, the maximum will take place at 20:30 and the total phase will last approximately 1 minute and 33 seconds, with the Sun very low, just 4.6° above the horizon.

    1. Choose a place with a clear western horizon

This will not be a midday eclipse: it will take place in the evening, with the Sun very low. For this reason, the quality of the observation will depend above all on having a clear view to the west, with no mountains, buildings, trees or other obstacles.

At MónNatura Delta, the flat, open setting of the Ebro Delta and the 360º Viewpoint offer a privileged place to experience it with a wide field of vision. The Delta landscape, with its open horizons, is one of the great allies for enjoying this astronomical phenomenon.

    2. Arrive early and prepare for the wait

The total phase will last just over a minute and a half, but the eclipse will begin much earlier. In Amposta, the eclipse will start at around 19:36 and the maximum will arrive almost an hour later.

That is why it is advisable to arrive in advance, settle in calmly, check the Sun’s position and avoid any last-minute rush. It will also be the middle of August, so it is important to stay well hydrated and be prepared to spend some time outdoors.

At MónNatura Delta, you will find water, drinks and other products in the shop, which specialises in typical Delta and local products. The centre also has air-conditioned spaces, making the wait more comfortable during the hottest hours.

This way, you can complete the experience with local flavours and moments of rest while waiting for one of the most anticipated astronomical phenomena.

    3. Always look at the Sun with certified protection

Safety is essential. During all partial phases of the eclipse, certified eclipse glasses with ISO 12312-2 certification must be used. Conventional sunglasses, X-rays, CDs, smoked glass and homemade filters are not suitable.

At MónNatura Delta, tickets for the observation include certified eclipse glasses so that everyone can follow the eclipse safely. In addition, the telescopes at the 360º Viewpoint will be fitted with the corresponding solar filters, so the preferential observation can be carried out with full safety and accompanied by the centre’s team.

Only during the very brief moment of totality, when the solar disc is completely covered by the Moon, is it possible to look directly. Before and after that moment, protection must be used again.

    4. Do not focus only on the Sun: observe the Delta too

A total eclipse is not only an astronomical phenomenon, it also transforms the landscape. During totality, the light changes, the day darkens, the temperature may drop slightly and the solar corona may become visible, a luminous halo that only appears during total eclipses.

At MónNatura Delta, this experience can be enjoyed in a natural setting that is especially sensitive to changes in light: the salt flats, La Tancada lagoon, the birds and the open horizon of the Delta can turn the observation into a unique experience, between astronomy and nature.

    5. Book early: tickets are limited

An eclipse of this kind can bring large numbers of people together at observation points. To enjoy it calmly, it is important to plan your arrival, check access to the centre and book in advance, as tickets are limited.

It is also advisable not to leave immediately after the eclipse maximum. At events of this kind, the busiest moments for traffic usually occur just after totality, when everyone starts heading back at the same time.

At MónNatura Delta, you will be able to extend the experience a little longer: the shop will be open and there will also be food trucks until 22:30. A good way to end the day calmly, enjoy the surroundings and allow departure to be more comfortable and staggered.
